looks as if... or sounds as if, too???

You can make any audio clip look like clipping by turning up its clip volume control too much, without necessarily clipping it. Rendering to 16bits will often turn "looks like clipping" into "yes, that's clipping and i can't go back"

it sounds to me like you want to use a compressor but you have no real goal in mind.... at least you haven't told us WHAT you think a compressor will do for you. Adding compressors to music that has already been mastered well is probably doing more harm.. especially when all you probably need is som...

inverting the phase of (one of two) identical tracks will make that bassline silent if summed to mono. But who listens in mono these days? Also, our ears don't detect low-freq sound panning nearly as effectively as midrange or high-freq stuff (why? because we use phase-difference algorithms more tha...

fat & wide??? you mean, like maybe they inverted the phase on one channel?? Try using the utility plugin and click invert phase on either the left or right and see if you get a nice fat & wide bass sound. Either that, or use simple delay to add a few msec delay to just one channel (left or r...

and don't neglect to erase the "Patch sELECT" data if the MIDI files were meant to be played back on a Standard MIDI instrument (like the one's web browsers use to play back smf files).

It might be OK to highpass (at 30 or 80) and then compress (with some attack) your kick if you are aiming to get some THWAP and presence... but for the love of pete go back and add another kick drum layer that is not high pass filtered at all, and don't compress that. Compressing drums makes them le...

there's a section in the manual that answers all of this.

basically, ableton instruments and effects use no CPU when not in use. For VSTs, you have to freeze the track and delete the instance of the VST to save CPU.

the myserious silent tracks may: 1. have volume set to 0 2. be routed to something other than "master output" 3. be being overriden by session-view clips. Hit "return to arrangement". 4. effects can make them silent or quiet. 5. really? Nothing soloed, not even a return track? No...

I was confusing Q with resonance, thanks for the clear-up. I was also assuming your filter was not changing from a Lowpass to a Highpass, but was one or the other... and that the cutoff frequency was being controlled from high to low... either way, i think the trick is to set up your knob so there i...

some hardware does the opposite... higher Q as the cutoff is decreased... having a lot of resonance at high frequencies can be... annoying.... depending on the source.

[edit] Highest Q setting = when Lowpass cutoff level is at lowest frequency

I know that CLIPS ccan behave that way... set the launch mode to toggle... (you have to select the "L" button in the clip window to see this pull-down menu option)

Then maybe MIDI map that clip's play button.

I'm not sure about Simpler/Sampler.

if you are using the ER1's internal sequencer, synced to live, you can just use the mute on/off buttons to solo the sounds you want to record.
(but not when the ER1 received MIDI note data... thanks for sharing the tip, spiral)
