Re: Virtual Analog vs Wavetable synthesis

Haha, Waldorf using strips of tape? What what. Anyway, just to confuse the issue even further, in the early PPG days of wavetable synthesis quite a few of the wavetables they used were intended to emulate analogue synthesis techniques like PWM and resonant filter sweeps. Still are actually if you l...

Re: Virtual Analog vs Wavetable synthesis

virtual analog synthesis attempts to emulate what happens in analog circuits (ie. oscillator drift, electronic interference) wavetable synthesis (commonly used in waldorf and PPG synths), uses a waveform which is "read by the oscillator". in the waldorf days it was a strip of tape which ha...

Re: Copyright of audio taken from a news broadcast

i remember listening to autechre on BBC sessions (forget the name now...) and they used BBC news samples to make up a bit of narrative - which was kinda funny - but it was frowned upon by the censorship politburo. the set was cut short 5mins later... its always going to be a bit of a gamble, but ult...

How long since they showed the DJs any love? I know, right? They totally pander to that serialist European avant-garde early-twentieth-century crowd. Hey Ableton, I know that's where the money is, but don't forget there's music beyond Schoenberg! So the money is in the "serialist European avan...

i havent used rewire in a long time, but AFAIK it's designed to send audio between DAWs, and not MIDI... although the specs may have changed! another solution is to use the IAC (inter application communication) port to send MIDI between your chosen apps. You may need to configure this using the Audi...

Re: learning logic, losing my mind...

fuck ableton Live is so much more intuitive and logical (Excuse the pun).. NOTHING at all in Logic follows any rational thought... you want to shift a midi track an octave up? tough luck.. the synths look like someone spent a little too much time shading stuff in 3d and put buttons wherever they wo...

if the ports are not appearing in the live midi prefs, then i would assume that there is a driver problem. are u sure u have the latest driver from the akai website? i ask this because sometimes hardware gets shipped with a cd of old drivers... another possibility, try using a different usb cable, m...

Lastly, there are issues with some computers, my acer being one of them, on which the firewire bus shares the same pci slot with the wireless lan, resuloting in audio drop outs and generally poor performance. Thankfully this issue is easily resolved by disabling the wlan when using the zero 8. ther...
