Sampler vs Emulator X2?

For some time I have been using E-MU Proteus X, and even just upgraded it to X2. It is basically Emulator X2 without sample import and some beat analysis features. There is a crossgrade offer from Proteus X to Emulator X2, but it is very close to the price of Sampler. So, I was wondering whether Sam...

Hmm... try Multi Edit, Group C / Window 3, Mode = MIDI. If you have the manual, it's on page 36.

K1 II had reverb and updated drum sounds. See the Vintage Synth Explorer entry . Don't know about K1 firmware, but the K4 filter had nasty clicks in pre-1.4 (?) versions. Upgrading the firmware was true to form - open case, replace ROM chip, screw back together and hope for the best. Well, it worked.

I used to have a Kawai K4, a long long time ago... (1992) Had to sell it for money, but got a good price. I have the urge to get one again, it is a cheap way to get nostalgic. It's a classic.

Forge, is yours the original K1, or K1 II?

I have it, and I kind of like it. Martin is genuinely enthusiastic about Live, and you can actually pick up something useful from it. Plus it cost less than an issue of Computer Music; for the price it is more than OK. I think it is better to tell people to look it up in the manual than rewrite the ...

When you say "per instance", do you mean per instance of Sampler in a track? I'm approaching this from an Emulator X pespective, where you have one instance of the sampler, with 1...16 presets, and the presets have an unlimited number of voices, and you have one filter per voice. How does ...

Let's just say that if you want to completely take over the GUI drawing and not use the high-level UI components, like Ableton appears to have done, it could take several iterations to get it working smoothly. The good side is that you look the same on both/all platforms. In the meantime, Cubase and...

At least they didn't rename it to Inspect-izer or something equally dreadful. Hate the RN logo though, I'm holding on to my Elemental Audio original vintage Inspector.

Don't want to bounce. It limits flexibility. When you're creating something in the session view it is no time for bouncing. The problem for me is that I can't get enough tracks to play at the same time without glitches. If I start to bounce, or even to freeze, I lose track of my ideas very quickly. ...

You know what? I can wait for Live 6. It seems that getting an Intel Mac is the only way to get out of Live G4 hell, as I'm pretty sure Live 6 has no G4 optimizations either (remember the Altivec support discussion?). All you Powerbook users out there, I feel for you. (See my sig.) For once it is go...

Simon wrote "How to Make a Noise", a free e-book about synth sound design. Sometimes pops by on KvR. His synth programming series just started in Music Tech Magazine.

Well, the XDA IIs runs Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Edition, so theoretically Live could work. But (according to the specs), with a 400 MHz XScale and 128 MB RAM... well...
