Wow. This is just awesome for everyone concerned.

This is going to mean a lot of new Ableton users (there are literally millions of Soundcloud users who could presumably all claim Live Lite free!).

And a bunch of new Soundcloud Pro users

But whatever the cost Propellerhead take a 30% cut o_O

Perhaps Ableton users just aren't that interested about developments on the island that is Propellerhead Reason any more?

I think that silly band names are cool. Silly product names are not necessarily so cool. As I said, it's a miscalculation that Image Line previously made. Weird how history repeats itself and people don't learn so easily from the mistakes of others <shrugs>

As names go, "Bitwig" rivals "Fruity Loops" for sounding unprofessional, and even though Image Line changed their software name eventually, the silly name has stuck

1) Moved to Cubase 5.
2) Made basically no music.
3) Moved back.

I upgraded within the last year, so Live 8 Suite still feels fresh to me. But having used Live since v2, i still find it uniquely creative and inspiring software (as in a different way I also find Reason - great combo for me!).

Quite a steep curve after your reach 40 ....

sounds to me like the kind of minimal editing one can do in arrangement view, but inside a clip... i would hope that BW doesn't require an outside editor, that would be a major fail I hope that integration for an external editor is right there in version one. Could be some time then before Live 9 surfaces. I am fairly certain they have something in the works or they would have not tweeted that, but as to what stage it's in, I am gonna guess it's not as far along as bitwig. My hopes would be thats because they wanna do things right and have thought about...

But here the developers are separate from the support staff and product specialists, artist development, etc. And with ten developers for every one Bitwig developer they would have to pretty seriously drop the ball to be overtaken....

might it be that the foundation of bitwig is the reason for the absence of live 9? :wink: IIRC there are actually two junior programmers from Ableton who are involved with Bitwig, while the Ableton staff has grown in the last couple of years from around 100 people to 130... including a pretty hefty...
