This optimisation business is silly. You don't need to do it, but if you think it's entertaining go ahead... I use Live on an iBook G3 900 with 384 MB of RAM, and it's good. 600 aint enough ram for a start.....ableton on macs need minimum 1gb IMO...

if you can afford it max it out ....

there are lots of posts on the forum about maximising your settings....

just spend an hour going through it all and you will find everything you need

ableton running like logic on osx tiger...holy f***!!!! that would be the next revolution in music production... ableton is nowhere near as good on the mac as it is on a pc..and it hurts to say that ;) 10.1 cheetah was erm.....a beta os wasnt it :) tiger is however way ahead of anything i have seen ...

what soundcard are u using? also, osx 10.3.6 and 10.3.7 and much much better for audio..... why is that (with OSX 10.3.6+ being better)? is there anything wrong with using the built in powerbook soundcard? 3.6 and 3.7 addressed some minor issues with coreaudio and also sped up the whole system by q...

all the newer units are using way too much cpu than they should be and its something that is going to get better for sure.....
m-audio drivers use up to 30% cpu at times which is totally unaccptable.

this is the only problem i have ever seen regarding an rem multiface and carbus......

it sounds like you problem is related to your system setup only...
