dont isolate the snare with the loop region, just leave that as is, then follow borgs instructions.

Yes this is correct

You can only render with effects in those two ways - but really, recording the master out, isn't this the same as rendering? It may not be offline, but its still doing exactly the same thing.

if you are using a laptop, i find its always useful to have an external USB numeric keypad as well.

legato and RAM mode

RAM mode will help eliminate clicks from the disk rummaging through your hard drive to find the bits in your audio clips.
