if its a corrupt text file i would then do a repair of the OS rather than a reinstall, as you have your ghost copy this would fix your problem too, but i would try the repair first..

i would just boot from an xp home disk and do a fresh install with home. But remeber to put all you laptop drivers onto a disk so can configure it all for home!!

a drum machine would be better.
