in my book normalizing and limiting are two different things.


If you sample/track has no clips or digital distortion, then normalizing will not harm them

back to the mute pad issue.


you could use a mute group.
assign desired pad to mute group x
assign an empty pad to mute group x also.

then you could use the empty pad to mute your desired sound
