How essential is the use of mlan if one has only one mlan compatble device like the I88X ? Can it be adressed as a "simple" FW interface under coreaudio ? Or does it strip the unit(s) of essential functionality ?

Just made a test set with 20 tracks, 50 clips - mix of one shots/1 minute loops, 16 bar, 32 bar loops ... no problem ... mind I'm still on 3.0.4 (but apparently this exists for some people already since 2.x)

No problem on my Powermac G5 and Ibook G4 ...

Sad ... so many frustrated ego(tripper) 's ... might be better to look first at your self instead of to the (significant) other ...

Don't forget to have a good look at the offerings of Soundcraft.
They have some excellent smaller mixer. I'm using a Folio Notepad which is an excellent unit, no noise whatsoever.

Think live looping/improvising is to 99% of the Live users barren ground ... people tend to render their presequenced material to loops and loop it from there within Live ... full stop ... improvising for these people is turning a few efx knobs etc ... But starting from a blank canvas ... oooh no .....

Some time ago I saw a documentary somewhere onthe net featuring Jo-Jo Mayer with DJ Spooky - http://www.jojomayer.com/ - ... unbeleivable , this man plays Junglebreaks/DnB live and can even sound like if playing reverse

Doublechecked with Presonus who advised :

The Headphones and Stereo outputs all reference the same output stream/mix.
However, you can independently adjust the volume.

FWIW, the outputs are UNbalanced ...

Makes this offering in all very much less attractive (in my eyes)

Same thing here ... have even setup my desk with the screen far left instead of in between the monitors so that when monitoring I have to concentrate on the sound instead of screen+ sound ...

Imac G5 & Mac Mini G4 are 2 completely different beasts ... G5 Mac's like the Imac are +/- on par with the current crop of Intel CPU's , performancewise ... G4 Mac's are a bit behind ... Personnally I have an Ibook G4 1Ghz and a Powermac G5 1,8 , quite close both to the spec's you're considering...

Akufen has always been high on my list as well ... nice interview (Canada rates high on the EM field : Applied Accoustic systems, Plogue Bidule, Deadbeat, Akufen , ... )
