Cameleon 5000 is pretty awesome as well as Albino...

Personally I'd give my top five though as
Reaktor, Absynth, Moog Modular V, Symptohm and Tassman...

downloaded over the weekend... some of these are quite sexy!

download a LAME encoder? you can get some that plug into Quicktime so you can export cleanly...

Don't know about Moog being done to death... but there certainly are far too many vsti remakes of it...

Outside of Live, you might have problems with some of the other plugs you might use. There are a few that I had to pay a fee to crossgrade, but Live won't give you any hassles.

Live renders a .wav file with whatever your settings are... so if you're using 44.1khz, 96khz, 16bit/24bit, that would determine your bit rate. It doesn't export .mp3 files so I think you might be missing something.

Interesting... but being Linux I doubt it'd run Live

I really have to download Predator... I love Albino... and keep thinking of picking up Blue... I suppose I should save the money and at least check out the demo for predator!

Except for refurbs and out dated systems, I don't think you can really get any great 'deals' on any of the Macs...

Good luck though... check out the developer/education prices, but you won't be saving a ton.

I've had a lot of good luck with Toshiba's myself.

Personally I have switched to Mac, but I've had good hardware/customer service support experience with Toshiba. If I was to get another PC laptop I would definitely go back to Toshiba myself.
