Re: Riding the faders
Ableton records all of your fader moves while in record mode. Hook up a BCF or 2 or 3 or whatever... and go to work.

Re: Homemade vocal booth or cheap purchase?
3 layers of drywall with overlapping seems will pretty much kill any noise coming into a booth.

Re: Metre or Time Signature changes that change Playback?
If we are talking audio clips, I do not see how altering the time signature of Live is going to matter... the audio is still the same. What would change is how other events are quantized (if this is enabled) to this audio. Hope that makes sense.

Re: Budget studio gear?
The Rode NT1 has always been a favorite of mine for recording just about anything, vocals to entire jam sessions and the Shure SM57 is extremely versatile as well. These are pretty well known as not to pricey work horses in the recording industry (if that means anything.) Grab a good mic for kicks a...

Re: Which audio interface?
A small investment for a BLA mod to your current interface will smoke any interface you could currently buy in your price range and would be less than half of what you are looking to spend. Just an opinion from someone who has already gone down the path you are taking.

Re: Theory - new sound engine in Live 9
I thought Ableton was goin out of business, so Apple bought them and they were gonna make live a 93bit DJ app and completely do away with session view, and you will only be able to use Live as a plug-in in Logic so it will sound better, ALL because the success of Maschine? Exactly what I heard... o...

thanks for the feedback! ERC> i have looked at the 896iii and to be honest i don't need all those mic pres. a few more $$ too. Moody> the black lion mods look great, but that means buying a second hand mkii which could have any number of issues with it. there is also a 4 month waiting list for mods...

Re: MOTU 828 mkiii
Might I suggest an MKI or MKII instead with a Black Lion Audio modification, a much superior sound! You would be under the price of a new MKIII as well.

Re: Vintage emulating compressor. Good or bad?
Since outboard gear seems to be probable for a solution since you mentioned the foogers, I would suggest possibly an old inexpensive compressor such as the DBX118. These go for cheap and are amazing for adding dirt and punch. Additionally they are one knob wonders... two actually, one for compressio...

Re: Music theory help needed. Scales.
I'm going to go the other way for the purposes of argument and suggest that, even within the 7 notes of a scale, some will sound "better" over a certain bass note. Let's say that you have a steady C playing in the bass. Unlikely, but possible. Over that, you have some keys playing C-G-E. ...

Re: Music theory help needed. Scales.
I need to read better... Stepping out and using chromaticism is fun. Also come up with intersting chord combinations instead of a standard triad... you don't have to know the theory to know what you want your music to sound like. Example: BCE (often the 5th is not nescessary in the chord structure b...

Re: How to learn all that music stuff? Time is a problem...
It is a slow painful or joyful - perspective - process. Find what you like and run with it. For most musicians/artists it takes a decade to learn the craft and another decade to unlearn enough to become the musician/artist you want to be or simply end up being. Finding what works for you is a matter...

Re: Whats the average harmonic content of a bass guitar?
New strings for a bass is over rated, especially electrics. it does matter.. you're probably speaking from a very subjective point.. I'm not saying old strings sound bad.. (I change my strings once a year or even two... wear the "new sound" out about a month in..) I for one could care les...
