Hey Live Peeps... Thanks for the educated opinions and comparisons, I too am about to upgrade, though I have a budget of 1700 EUR. From My research, I have decided to go with a Dell 6400. I was considering a mac for the same price range but the Dell gave me more performance for the money. Please co...

That would take care of one issue - but the price is outrageous :(

I have tried a Macbook and and Dell side by side (both with 1.8ghz Core 2 Duo processors and 1GB RAM) - and the Dell outperforms the Macbook when running Ableton (e.g., more track counts, soft synths, etc.). One thing to keep in mind is that I did customize and optimize my Dell. Installed two 7200rp...

If you haven't yet, you should consider a Dell business-class laptop (such as a D620). There are a number of advantages: 1. Price is reasonable for specs through Dell Small Business 2. Even though they are not the most attractive machines available, the build quality is excellent - and road ready. 3...

I'm not sure that would help because it would just be expanding an existing connection - and all would be going through the same overall port. Also, with many audio interfaces, there are issues with what type of firewire controller you use (some are better than others). Most companies recommend a TI...

Not a good idea because you will have devices competing for resources (and audio devices tend to require a lot of resources). It's best to have your firewire audio device on a separate port However, with that said, I know people who have made it work.

I wish the MacBooks were set up to have more flexibility - and greater compatibility they do! and they're called MacBookPro ;) Yes - with a MacBook Pro I can have better screen resolution (takes care of issue 3, but would have to get a 17" to get the same resolution I can get with a 15" D...

I have considered moving to a MacBook and would really like to in many ways, but there are three issues I have that are keeping me from making the move: 1. No option to add a second internal hard drive (currently I have a Dell laptop that allows you to replace the CD drive with a second internal dri...

suprised not to see a user library for Live

Why is there no user library for Live users to share files, presets, etc? I would think this is especially important with the new Racks in Live 6.

Re: Random observations/annoyances...

4) Does the cursor always have to come back to the downbeat before playing? This gets annoying in Arrange view, always having to wait two or three beats before it starts playing back from where I want it. I understand this in a "live groove" context, but when composing it wastes time. May...

Apple is really at fault here. From what I have heard, it is a very difficult transition for a lot of companies to write UBs and it is taking considerable resources. They are putting in a lot of effort (and money) for what makes up a small percentage of the user base. Apple should be doing more to h...

You owe it to yourself to give Godin guitars a try. The playability, sound and fit and finish are so much nicer than any Gibson I have ever tried. And the sound versatility is much better also (they are a good middle ground between a strat and a LP). I use both a LGX-SA and a Multiac Duet. Great gui...

Just run the PC version using Bootcamp or Parallels. THe other option is to run NeoOffice (it is a FREE office program for Mac that works great and imports and exports in Microsoft office formats).
