yes , it's pretty obvious how to get midi out , look in preferences ,then on each tracks you can send your midi signal to a port .
i am not a max genius but it should e pretty straightfoward .
there are a few guys into maxmsp on this forum , i am sure they come foward .

the best way to work with songs with different tempo is to put them on different scenes & call the scene by its bpm (ex BPM120).
as for using synths you might as well find it easier to work your synths in live instead of protool .
