It's quite possible that he got into technical arguments with staff at Ableton, and ended up being told that he simply wasn't technically skilled enough to come to the conclusions he comes to. This, would definitely bring him to this point. Don't worry, I have been told just that several months ago...

may I humbly suggest that taking a year to fix a bug that renders the program unusable on a major OS is wholly unacceptable? I can make music and still eat from time to time. So why shouldn't I be able to make music and stuff mineral wool into the corner of my room in between?

Probably yes, also I can try to find a room with a size of a hangar or something where I don't have to deal with room modes too much.
