Re: Do I need more memory?

Live isn't very effecient compared to other apps. What's the processor speed of yr p4 ? If it's less than @2.8Ghz, I'd wouldn't waste yr money on RAM - your going to need a new PC. If you can get the memory cheap (or free) then by all means do it as a stop gap. 1Gb would be enough to start with for ...

Re: Bad Head Room

I doubt that Ableton would *consciously* reduce the ammount of headroom on the summing bus in Live 8. Think about it..doesn't make any sense. There hasn't been one bug report (out of 100000's) to suggest this has happened. I'm not saying your not getting clipping, but I doubt that it's related to th...

Re: Very Bif Problem...

Your soundcard needs true multi-clinet drivers for this to work. This alloes you to use MME/WDM & ASIO drivers at the same time. I was under the impression that all proper soundcard use them these days - all the M-audio,Emu, MOTU, RME, yamaha etc.. interaces have been able to do this for years. ...

Great post - we've all been there at some time or another. Im in the 'design everything myself' camp. Definitey gets in the way sometimes.

Re: why does ableton click so much

I've got a Zalman NC1000 notebook cooler as well - very quiet and well made, unlike some of teh £10 flourescent-lit-hovercraft-like coolers found on E-bay.

Re: Bad sound quality, when recording.

Ableton just records the audio coming into the soundcard in exactly the same way as any other app. Test it by recording something from yr decks using a free audio recording app then recording the same thing in ableton. if the audio sounds different just when playing back in ableton, make sure you're...

Good news about the DPC latency - post back the results when you get yr card running.

Re: Fast Track Ultra 8R fails to record 6 simultaneous tracks

A better test:

Leave your soundcard plugged in.

Run DPC latency checker & Load up Ableton. Set to record on 6 channels
Make sure you can see both ableton & DPC latency checker.
Hit record

See if the dropouts coincide with a DPC latency spike.

Re: Fast Track Ultra 8R fails to record 6 simultaneous tracks

If you mean the test, it'll just rule out ableton. My money's on a hardware issue. Don't panic - if you read through some of the problem threads on one the notebook forums, people have -eventually-found solutions. Usually something to do with disabling CD drives, wireless and the battery (can't reme...

Re: Fast Track Ultra 8R fails to record 6 simultaneous tracks

I posted on the M-Audio forum also and I have now checked if there's any DPC latency issues with my setup with this tool: http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml Any ideas? I'm pretty desperate. :( You beat me to it ! What were your scores like using the tool? Any big spikes with yr audio ca...

Re: Fast Track Ultra 8R fails to record 6 simultaneous tracks

Sorry - not familiar with the Ultra 8R  Try it with the onboard audio: Unplug soundcard. Set up your internal card with standard mme/directx drivers in Ableton prefs (think it should default to this setting) Make sure that you get can get audio playback from ableton coming through the speakers...

Re: Fast Track Ultra 8R fails to record 6 simultaneous tracks

Loads of people seem to be having issues with the Dell studio laptops. It's a shame because the older latitude series was pretty good. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=325129 http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=341893 http://www.virtualdj.com/forums/97635/PC_Version_Tech...

Re: Headphones Recommendations

The Audio-Technica ATH-M50 were a very tight fit on my large(ish) head. Nice balanced sound though for the money.

The best phones i've ever used have got to be the AKG K701's. But they're expensive, open, and they're a little delicate (forget DJ-ing).

Re: How to jump to a tempo?

Do it with scenes - if you name one scene as '120 BPM' it will jump to that tempo. Name another one '130 BPM' and it'll jump to 130.

That's how I've seen a few bands do their live shows..
