Easiest way to do basic loop chopping + mapping in Live?
Apologies if this is a total noob question, but I'm trying to do the simplest of things: remix my own work. I have parts bounced down out of Cubase and want to pull them into Live and auto-slice them into crotchets or quavers or whatever and map slices to ascending MIDI notes. I tried using Kontakt'...

Thanks for the update Amaury. If you want some inspiration for how this feature should work (and the keyboard interface to it) ... just look at how Cubase works. As I posted here (http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=557067#557067): ALT + drag: create unique copy ALT + SHIFT + drag: create l...

No problems Amaury. Could you comment as to whether this has been considered for implementation in Live, and if not, could you offer some kind of reason why? I would have to assume that this has been discussed at some point by the development team - I can only assume that if it's not in there that i...

Damn it. This is one of the first things that I hit when I was investigating using Live as a real DAW. I honestly can't believe that anyone attempts proper lengthy arrangements (which by their nature tend to contain many repeated chunks of audio/midi) without it. Oh well ... I guess Live is still ba...

If you want to see this feature done right, look at how Cubase does it: ALT + drag: create unique copy ALT + SHIFT + drag: create linked copy CTRL + R (my keybinding): unlink an existing linked copy Super fast editing and caters to all the different situations listed here. Anyone who has worked like...

Does Live 7 have linked MIDI clips? (i.e. shallow copies)
This is one major feature that is missing from Live 6 that is preventing me from using it as my primary DAW. What I'm talking about is the feature of almost all other DAWs where you can make a shallow copy of a chunk of MIDI (or an Audio Part in Cubase) so that when you modify one instance of it, al...

How to timesync acapellas?
Hi, One of the main thing I use Live for is beatwarping acapellas before I import them into Cubase for the bulk of my remix work. I'm having trouble with Ableton's beat detection though, it seems to have trouble with tracks with no drum beats. Basically my question is this - how do you tell Live: &q...

iTunes actually supports the BPM field, so you can sort by BPM easily. AFAIK, there are plans to implement a button to auto-save Live's calculated BPMs into that ID3 field so that you don't have to manually enter them into iTunes anymore either. If I were you, I wouldn't go hacking extra information...

Thanks for the tips longjohns ... I didn't actually know about the session view record mode, I just discovered it after noticing the play icons turn into record icons when you arm a track for recording .... duhhhhh. Anyhow, I'm most of the way to a solution now, I use a track that has its output dis...
