Re: balanced or unbalanced cables, novation hub
Get the balanced cables. For me it would be worth it to silence little voice in the back of my head saying "You shoulda got the balanced cables."

Re: Ghost Notes. We need them
I don't get it... What's keeping you from making ghost notes using the regular piano roll? You don't need any special features to make ghost notes.

Re: Late 2008 MBP - update or not?
Upgrade the RAM and get an SSD. Stick to Mavericks, or try El Cap. Don't install Yosemite, it kinda sucked. I run 8gb and an SSD on a 2010 MBP with an i5 and it suits my needs. The Core series CPUs are considerably slower than the i series, but you will still see a significant performance increase w...

Re: New Rane USB / Midi mixer for Ableton - sound quality?
I have a 62 in my studio area. It's phenomenal.
Sound quality is up to typical Rane standards, and the construction is rock solid.
I will probably use it long after Rane drops support for it.

Re: Syncing audio on a Macbook with visuals NOT on a macbook ...
TouchVIZ seems to support CoreMIDI, so I assume it can sync to MIDI. TouchVIZ is fabulous, I use it extensively. You can send it CC data to change clips and modify effects: http://hexler.net/docs/touchviz-midi-reference Also, TouchVIZ can use the camera as in input source. Theoretically you could s...

Re: MIDI controller endless rotaries
I have no suggestions, but if you could build this controller yourself, what features would it have? Also, how much would you want to spend?

Re: auto update to 9.6 broke my setup - F*****CK - #URGENT
Debug your scripts the easy way. Open a Terminal window. Type this command: tail -f ~/Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live\ 9.6/Log.txt | grep RemoteScriptError Your Terminal window will now echo all errors during compilation (meaning, when you launch Live). If you want the entire log output, you could ...

MIDI remote script question about modifying MIDI data
I'm trying to cobble together a custom remote script for a controller I'm working on. Got a couple of roadblocks: -A knob sends MIDI CC data 0-127. Using only a remote script, is it possible to divide this data into two zones, with the extra zone sending data to a different control? -A fader sends M...

Re: iMac USB 3.0 ports question
Nope, unless it's a 2.0 hub. Then the 3.x devices you are connecting to the hub will be limited to 2.0 speed.
I ttthhhhiiinnnnkkkk this may have been a problem in the past when connecting older 1.x devices to a 2.0 bus, but that's vintage.

The SSD upgrade will change your life. Here's a great kit with all the necessary tools: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/DIYIMACHDD12/ (I really like OWC. Service and products are fantastic.) I use a single internal 256gb SSD for everything, then a NAS with 500gb and 3tb driv...

I was experimenting with one for a few months. Solid controller. Only sold it because it was too much controller for my purposes. Still works nicely with the remote scripts.

Re: How to clean the clutter from the User Library?
On OSX, Live stores recordings in ~/Music/Live Recordings. I'm sure it's something similar in Windows.
If you save the set, the temporary recordings will be moved from that folder into the project folder. If you exit Live without saving the set, you will be prompted to delete the temporary recordings.

Re: How to Transmit CC 120, CC 123 ?
Those CCs are among a few reserved "channel mode" CCs: http://tweakheadz.com/midi-controllers/
I bet Ableton excluded them to prevent goofy stuff from happening if messages are sent on the CCs from the piano roll.
