rb, did you ever get this figured out? I've just run into the same problem.

Does anyone else have an answer?

Pitchscraper! If I didn't upgrade, I would still be using that in EVERY one of my DJ sets (though I think my partner is pretty glad I can't). But really, if you're mixing hip hop (especially screw!), sometimes you just need to slow the record down.

When I first started using Live, I did everything in the arrangement view (even, embarassingly, live performances - it was the only thing that made sense to me at the time!). Now I generally make a bunch of loops in session, jam them out into arrangement, and then go back and finagle them into somet...

Care to post an example, hoffman? I'm not in the beta circle yet, but once it opens (and when 6 drops), I'd like to see what you mean - I don't get it, at present.

I didn't find it too hard to warp... once a beat starts, it tends to lock into a stable rhythm until things change up. Clearly there's a fair bit of "make one beat; copy; paste; paste; etc."

How do the new curves deal with recording? What I mean is: if, while doing a set, I switch between different curves, does the resulting envelope take that into account? Does the envelope just record the midi I'm sending in from my controller, or what? the curve is applied post-automation. it record...

Exacerbating this are the endless references to and inserts of Operator in the users manual, sample content, and tutorials. It's not just a separate product you can decide you don't want and forget about. Ableton has intentionally set things up so you're constantly tripping over it. It is literally...

I don't want to buy Operator. I'd like to not be forced to - it's as simple as that. Not everyone needs it, or Sampler.

Upgrading the hard drive tends to void the warrenty (though, if memory serves me right, the warrenty language is kind of vague). I'd looked into putting a faster drive in my MacBook, and decided ultimately that it just wasn't worth the risk.

I use headphones, and then after you've recorded, play it back on your speakers. It's a bummer to have to switch back and forth, but that's probably what you'll have to do.

Your mic is probably picking up the sound coming from your speakers. That and a little bit of processing lag as the sound goes through your computer makes an echo-style delay.

Prior to impulse, I used to make all my beats in the arrangement view and then either cut & paste or consolidate them. When impulse was brought out, I was slow to get into it - I was used to my own workflow. Now it's all I use for making beats. I like that I can get the sounds right, then drop t...

Re: Ways of Thinking about Rhythm

It turns out this pattern of syncopation, 3+3+2, is very very common in all forms of dance music. It is a dominant rhythm in hiphop, breaks, and dnb; it is often a sub-rhythm in house, techno, trance, and disco - eg, basslines, percussion patterns. It shows up in rock all over the place, as well. I...
