Vocaloid Lola (lady) and Leon (lad) are the ones you're looking for, I think. I'm not sure how good they'd be for straight speech synthesis, if that's what you're looking for... maybe worth looking at nonmusical ones?

I do rock and metal stuff using Hardcore Bass by Quantum Leap, the MusicMan and Lakland picked sounds in there are great. Should be fairly cheap now too, was somewhere around 200 euros when I first got it...

Get an active bass, whatever you do. Active electronics cover a multitude of sins, it's quite easy to get a good recorded sound out of an active bass in my experience. I'm currently playing either a Shine or a Rockbass (the cheap Warwick range) depending on how many strings I need, I've also used bo...

To agree with what others have said, yes BFD works with Live. Hard disk speed is more important than memory - I only have 512Mb but a really nice 16MB cached 7200RPM drive and it worked fine for me. I do prefer the samples in Stormdrum, but the vintage kit (Radio something-or-other) from BFD was gre...

Welcome to the fun of ExpressCard! There is one adapter on the way to allow pcmcia card use in EC slots, but I don't think it's out yet. Google will tell you more. Until/unless you can get that, you're shit out of luck - nobody so far has moved to EC for audio hardware. You can get an EC FireWire ca...

Ashdown make good gear, the Mag is decent for its price. Not earth-shatteringly great like some of the higher-end gear they make (especially my own favourite, the Ashdown Labs heads with tasty-good eq on them) Cheap and decent bass head/speaker combinations are fairly easy to find. I've had good exp...

I'm running Atmosphere in Live on XP Home, should still work ok with only 512Mb of ram. Saying that, if you're running with a Celeron and 512Mb and a slow laptop hard drive, performance is definitely gonna suffer. One thing that might help - uninstall Atmosphere, defrag your drive, reinstall it. Tha...

I'm fine personally with my guitar rig playing, current latency being below 20ms, Anything higher than that starts to throw me off. Below 20 I can still notice sometimes, but it's still playable.

It's not something I use very often, so I thought I'd ask - can Live pitch-shift clips by less than a semitone? Sometimes just using the Transpose control doesn't give the correct pitch, especially where guitars are involved...

I guess im among those who disagree ;) bringing art down to a mere technical stunt is taking artists for circus attractions... to me, a children drawing can be more expressive, deep and beautiful than a renaissance painting... It's not solely technical, don't get me wrong. But I think there definit...

My yardstick for music and art appreciation is fairly simple: if I can appreciate that something took some skill to achieve, whether it be in writing, performing or even just coming up with a concept, then I can appreciate it even if I don't like it. If I think it took little or no skill, I'm fairly...

For each midi track, you need to route its output to the relevant Battery input. So you'd select the Midi To channel in the top box to be the Battery channel, then in the bottom box select which Battery input you want it on. In the Battery window, look in Cell Control. You select the midi input you ...

...when I hear a song that has a synth preset patteren in it I am very disapointed with the artist. (i've noticed a number of songs that have, right out of the box, Korg EA-1 patterens in them) If it works musically, it shouldn't be a problem. Speaking of which, this is a logical extension of the s...
