Thank you both for your replies and help. It turns out the screen size adjustment fixed the problem. I have a 29 inch monitor and it was set to slightly larger than recommended. That was the cause.

64 bit live cannot open mp4 without a seperate codec. QuickTime is not 64bit ready, and 32 bit uses QuickTime.
