So, yeah. There is no good way to integrate Ableton Live into a DJ setup without a midi clock device (the xone:3d is the only one that's mass produced and is actually produced and available...and it's too expensive for one feature that works right). If you want to DJ with Ableton, the best thing to ...

Recording DJ Sets, etc.

So, when I was on Windows, I used Voxengo Recorder (in the main channel) to record my DJ sets (as opposed to rendering them).

Is there something similar for OS X?

btw, Live on Macbook = Sexy. Incredible Performance.

Oh yeah, and as to the timecode -> ableton people...go look at the one good feature of the xone:3d...the midi click and how it deals with it... Seriously, I use Ableton Live all of the time to make custom edits because it's the easiest software I've found to cut out or loop sections to alter the str...

A lot of you people are dumb. Short version: He probably uses SSL and Live together because Live sucks for DJing. It's okay for production and good for live remixing if (and only if) you can get multitrack recordings, but it just plain sucks for DJing. He probably uses the CDJs for when he wants to ...

I just downloaded and used the mixedinkey software. The results are quite impressive, and the tutorial and "camelot sound" chart they provide to show keys that will be complimentary is far and away the easiest I've seen to use. Wow, this is a huge leap forward in my humble opinion. camelo...

if you're not using it for live performance, why not go to Logic instead? For production, I really think it's just better.

Assuming you started out by DJing...match the song to a click track using a real deck. Keep on the pitch slider and just keep adjusting it all through the song. If you can keep it together well enough for a set, you can make it easier to warp.

And, yeah...warping is harder than beatmatching IMO.

I think the biggest pitfall I've seen with Live is people using it as its own end. If you're going to use live to DJ, don't do what you could do with decks if you practiced more. And don't overdo what you can do with Live. Despite not having a single tranwreck, my worst set ever (including when I ju...

I used Gentoo Linux with a 2.6 kernel for over a year with no problems. I went back to XP because of Ableton Live and I really hate windows. Linux is the way to go for performance for two reasons: 1) Stability. You can make a system (fairly easily with Gentoo) that is designed to do nothing but run ...

I'd love to comment on it, as it sounds interesting. But winamp on XP won't read the stream correctly (error syncing to mpeg) and i'm not opening IE for it.

He he...i'd like something like a hardware sampler that works as well and as customizeably as ableton. Maybe a multichannel mixer into which you can put flash ram cards or the little business-card-size mini-cds into each channel and do exactly what ableton can, but with a hardware device...you could...

If Live goes to linux, i'd switch back. I went back to windows after having ONE (count it, one) software problem in over a year specifically for Live. And it's back to crashing periodically and annoying the fuck out of me that i actually have to use the mouse to do routine system maintenance. I'm al...

Every vaio i've seen has sucked. Bad build quality, bad components, and a shiny name plate. that's it. I've used thinkpads in the past and no one can say that they're cheap computers, but since they're being manufactured by a chinese company (lenovo) now, they suck too. In my honest opinion as a com...
