If you have both VST and AU versions of the same plug-in, it shouldn't make a difference in performance. See here: http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32734 (some way down) I don't know if Universal Binaries and dual core CPUs change this in any way. This thread, too: http://www.ableton.com...

Try LC Xmu (the Mackie Control emulation utility) with Live 5 and the mK or K49, and feel the love. Finally some use for those ultracool LCD panels on the mK.

LC Xmu is Mac-only, but there's a comparable utility for Windows, the name escapes me now...

The Alpha is but one of them. Originally there was the Omega Studio (which I have), then the Lambda, and now it seems Alpha as well. It's weird that the LexiconPro site only has information about the Omega. Based on the Sweetwater specs the Alpha is all right, if the quality and the components are i...

You ignore Impulse, Simpler and Operator at your peril :). With them you could actually do everything with Live only, without any VST instrument plugins (or VST effects, for that matter). Impulse's user interface is really just for picking the samples and tweaking the sounds. To create patterns you ...

Nothing of course, in the context of Live. But it's not a banging beatbox like iDrum. And it only uses samples, and doesn't have the drum synthesis capabilities of RM IV or Microtonic. And it won't run outside Live. Yes, you can use Operator to make drum sounds and sample them for use in Impulse. An...

I'm sure there's more, but I can't recall/don't know them.
Can I add a few more:

Stylus RMX
DrumCore

I don't know if you can have the next scene launch automatically. The current scene will play until you actively change to another. The next scene down will be automatically selected, though, so just press Return to launch it. (This is controlled by Preferences, Misc, Behavior, Select Next Scene On ...

Live is very well suited for an all VI setup. You can use VST instruments and effects on both Mac and PC, and additionally on the Mac you can use Audio Units. Think of the rows in the Session view as the parts in your song. One line is the verse, another is the chorus, and so on. Note that these are...

Flur's book has apparently been strongly denounced by Ralf and Florian. It seems that Pascal Bussy's "Kraftwerk - Man, Machine and Music" is not endorsed by Kraftwerk either, but it presents things in a more neutral (?) light. In any case, it corroborates drumroll57's account.

I've had a pair of ESI nEAR 05s for a year now. Bi-amped, good bass. There is now a newer model, ESI PRO nEAR 05 Experience. SRP 199 pounds, got a good review in the May issue of Sound on Sound.

@TheAnimal: Agreed, ableton.com could use a 'sounds' section. Not just for Operator, but for Simpler and Impulse sounds too. But with S & I there's just the matter of copyright and legal clearance for all samples people might use. Might be too much of a burden on the admins. @hoffman2k: Sorry fo...

Does it have to be on the Ableton site? Check out SoundWrecks by Covert Operators. Check out the LiveFills from TrackTeam Audio. Some Operator lovin' to be found right there.

But what's this I see on the Glaresoft site: "This release also brings multi-out support to Logic Pro, Ableton Live, and MOTU Digital Performer." The release in question being 1.0.6... tried that yet? (The latest is v1.1 Universal Binary, no less.)
