Re: -18db digital = 0db analog
That is how I understand it as well. I think folks get tripped up because some general advice for preparing a master suggest not touching the master fader which would be an issue when interfacing with the world outside your DAW if you disregarded the levels being measured through internal summing. C...

Re: master fader
I guess as a follow up to this last comment, could we come to a consensus? If we are putting a Utility inline to manage the gain stages of our final mix, is the agreed advice to put them only on the input channels or rather the input gain-ie the initial sound sources? (If this is the correct answer,...

Re: audio bangs since 9.1
Does it always happen at the same place in your set or always after a certain time? That's a good question. If one of your licenses didn't carry over, or you installed shareware, there might be a burst in a demo mode of a isynth or effect. Also, try moving the same clips to new tracks, just to see ...

Re: A warping technique for dj's
Shortening the 1/4 note by 1/5 by increasing the tempo by *1.2 on a 5/4 tune (Take 5, 2+2=5, Count to 5) makes a very stable and heavy swing. Changing the preserve scope to bar or half bar still makes audibly unpredictable results to my untrained ears. As does adding beats to the measure by slowing ...

Re: usb hub tips
Not much help, but I will be following along here. There are very few road-worthy hubs IMO. Bus power is hit or miss on most models, build quality varies, you are invariably introducing a new point of failure in your system, which in my case as well is a necessary evil. But I haven't found a manufac...

Re: SSD with Live
What size drive do you think would keep me out of trouble? 128gb? 256? For starters, I understand that buying big made sense with a moveable drive, as the inner sectors would have faster access rates than the outer ones. And therefore my habit was to use my drives to half capacity before repurposin...

Re: sending audio to VST instrument
If an audio track lists within its output your MIDI track, and sub output as the synth, then yes that instrument can take an audio source, typically as an envelope generator or follower, but sometimes you can use the input as an actual sound generator and put it through the synth's filters and such....

Looking forward to the read.
Now couldn't you achieve the same results with the new Glue Compressor's dry/wet knob?
Cheers

Re: SSD with Live
I haven't ultimately decided on the capacity I'm going for in a SSD, but I am also going to swap out the optical drive with a SSD kit. Put the system folder on 1, and either my Home Folder on the other- if that's feasible-or use it for my media and/or sessions. Then record gigs with a thumb drive of...

It's a link button, like the one on Simple Delay. It disengages the independence of of the right, or in other words puts the same repeat pattern of the left side into the right.

function of bundled lfo midi vs lfo device?
Hi! What distinction would you make, if any, between the lfo midi and the lfo devices that come bundled with 9? They both: can take over audio signal flow parameters or midi parameters. You can use the regular lfo to control an envelope dial, and the midi lfo to control a send, up to you. are presum...

Re: Suite 8 -> Live 9? Who is going down this route?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but going from Live 8 non-suite+M4L to Live 9 Suite is going to fetch $700. And there's no way of upgrading M4L without Suite. That's a major change in price point for someone who has been doing a basic upgrade since 2

Re: Dynamic / density control. A musical approach...
Very intriguing. Hard to tell what any knob is going to do just by previewing the video, because the output appears to be more hands-off. And what do you mean by thinning out existing patterns? Is each 1-shot a loaded drum pad or sampler/simpler? And by thinning out patterns, are you subtracting fro...
