When a fader is selected, you can also set it's value by simply typing it and pressing enter. So, typing 0 and pressing enter would reset it.

Simpler has only one slot. You must mean Impulse.

Is there anything in particular stopping you from using several Impulses?

Several compressors (VSTs) support true sidechaining. Live states to support them (search for "sidechain" in the manual), but has a bug which crashes it as soon as a key input is enabled. Ableton has acknowledged the bug and is working on fixing it. See http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtop...
