Re: Bass Friendly Keys
Yes, what I meant was choosing the root note of whatever scale type or key signature you are planning on writing a song in. Okay so I was looking through my notebook of random tidbits of info that I pick up from random workshops, events, classes, and innernetz; and apparently the "bass friendly...

Bass Friendly Keys
Hi everyone. I remember hearing at an Ableton Live Production workshop that composing in certain keys work better for certain aspects of bass and especially sub-bass. For example, I've been told before to try to avoid composing in the key of C (whether major or minor) because in some instances it ca...

iLL.Methodology Workshop 2: Expanded Workflow
Just wondering if anyone has purchased these workshop videos. I found the first workshop very helpful and needless to say there's some very unique information in them (tons of free youtube videos about technical aspects but not very many that goes over philosophy when it comes to workflow and stream...

Mobile Recording Studio Help!!!
Hi everyone! So I'm trying to fashion together a mobile recording studio. Essentially I need help finding a good protective case for my audio interface, which is an RME Fireface 800 (a 1U sized rack). Ideally, I want something compact but protective (waterproof or water resistant is ideal). I don't ...

Re: Key & Beat Detection Software
So would you say it's definitely worth the money? Is it worth it to use it over freeware such as Rapid Evolution?

Re: Key & Beat Detection Software
Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I'm reading different reviews about Mixed in Key and Rapid Evolution. I seem to be reading mixed opinions about the accuracy of both programs; some say it's extremely accurate and some say not very accurate. Although, most of the negative reviews for Mixed In key seem t...

Key & Beat Detection Software
I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on the various key and beat detection applications that are out there. Rapid Evolution is Free (as is KeyFinder), the reviews and blogs seem to suggest that it's fairly accurate (seems equally, if not, more accurate than Mixed in Key) Mixed in Key, is it worth th...

Re: Question about learning Music Theory and Performance
I just remember that the few piano teachers that I have met or knew didn't know anything about production or synthesis. I took a basic keyboard and piano class in college and the guy didn't know anything about the electronic side of this. He was essentially strictly a piano teacher.

Re: Question about learning Music Theory and Performance
Okay I should elaborate, What I meant was, if I search for an instructor who advertises (or request a teacher) who teaches "keyboard lessons" there's also a likelihood he understand production and synth concepts. As opposed to say, a classical acoustic piano teacher, who understands music ...

Question about learning Music Theory and Performance
I want to learn more about Music Theory and Composition with the specific intention of applying it to electronic music production. Is it a better route to learn an instrument and pick up on music theory that way? Or should I just take a music theory class, without taking specific classes in a partic...

Re: MPC style note repeat
I'm afraid I'm not going to answer this question. But more so piggy back on it/bump it. I also would like to know a good way to emulate MPC style note repeat in Live. Is there a way to emulate the same kind of note repeat function as on the MPC's? Specifically (and this would probably help you out s...

Re: who's got a Novation X-Station?
I owned one a while ago. It was the first piece of gear I ever bought, so this was at a time when I basically knew nothing about anything and just getting into electronic music. 1. Never got to use it with Live as a transport. I didn't even know about Live at the time. Sorry man. 2. I found it very ...

Re: Undergrad and Graduate Music Degrees
Thanks so much for all the replies. As for me personally, (sorry, this will be very long-winded) I have a BA in Media Studies/Mass Communications. I found that I really did not learn anything all that practical while pursuing that particular major during my undergraduate studies. The fact that I hav...
