Machinate, I agree with you on the control part. The Sherman is a little un-intuitive on the controls, but its good for happy accidents I disagree on the distortion comment. I find it quite pleasant on a bass guitar.

Congrats Fool! I got mine for $500 US dollars. Be sure to mess around with the feedback oscillator, it gets real nasty. Also, the freely assignable ribbon controller is cool as well.

Bah! How about $199 off of any Mac computer instead, in addition to a student discount or refurb purchase.

Dude, what is the home made fx box in the pic under the bass? No need for compression on your bass synth lines if your distorting the shit out them. Heavy amounts distortion pretty flatten your dynamics anyways. However, you will want to use a sidechain compressor on the bass for ducking the volume ...
