Thank you for pushing me in the right direction. That seemed to work better when I tried it the other day but I seem to remember the samples all being in mono. You'll probably have to cut frequencies from both sounds. Try cutting one at 240hz and the other at 360hz (or 160 and 320). Or try a hi pass filter on one or the other.
