Final Scratch
Complete B.S. Final Scratch was developed by a small Amsterdam-based 2-person company called N2IT in 1997-1998. The two creators were active in the rave/club scene, and had experience djing. The first version ran on BeOS. I was hired in 1998 to go to Vegas and demo the very first system seen in the ...

Thanks to everyone that made it out, and to you Jesse for hooking it up. Even I learned some new things.
I'm going to be putting together another Ableton class in February at Robotspeak. We'll firm up the dates after NAMM - so stay tuned!

Re: EM-1 & live
Not much else to it really - I also sometimes take the EM1 out for my live DJ gigs, and just sync it up by ear with some basic beats to beef up my tracks in Live. Why dont you sync it live? Because that way I can start & stop it, write patterns, cue the patterns in the DJ mixer, and not have to...

EM-1 & live
Hi, I always use the EM1 as the master, and Live as the slave. One thing I do to avoid suddent changes in patterns on the e'tribe is to record "transition patterns" that are 2 bars long - where the filter just winds down, or the volume drops, or the drums drop out, allowing me to jump into...

Electribe
I'm strangely addicted to my Electribe EM-1. Just for building basic TR-like grooves, and simple monophonic lines. I find myself coming up with very useable stuff every time I sit down with it. I scoffed at it when I first heard of it - Korg's "all in one" dance music production tool. Afte...

Sync
Guess you guys aren't picky about timing drift. :) In a lot of situations, you just can't hear it too much - say one machine is playing beats and the other is playing samples or melodic stuff that isn't as rhythmic. Try just running the metronome on 2 machines, and start playing clips on muted track...

Some tips
Hi, I use an XL-7 sometimes along with Ableton. If you just want to use it as a drum machine, just make a simple multi, where you assign single patches to each of the tracks: 1. Kick 2. Snare 3. Toms 4. Hats etc. That way, you can mute, or drop in individual elements. You may want to create your own...

Well...
Cool that it's free, but it's really a crap compressor. Even as a "colored" compressor, it's wack. If you want an *excellent* free vintage-style compressor, that can go from "colored squash" to "transparent squeeze" check out Digital Fish Phones and give "Blockfish...

Not much point...
Unless you really need more CPU power. If you use a multi-channel i/o on the faster laptop, you can feed 2 or more stereo pairs into a DJ mixer (my preferred setup for djing with live). Where it might get interesting is if you're NOT running live on the second laptop - say maybe traktor, reaktor, MS...

EQ4 for Djing
Hi, I think it's kind of silly to try and replicate a dj mixer. You can get pretty much the same effect with 2 or 3 bands. Normally, I just set band #1 as a high-pass, and #4 as a lowpass, and disable the other 2. Add a little resonance to both to lift the curve up a bit, and then map 2 knobs per ch...

XL-7 and Live
Hi, I've been using an XL-7 with Live for some time. Basically I use the program mode on the knobs, and the triggers, to control Live. I dedicate channel 16 as well to Live, so I can use the pads to play instruments. The nice part is that I can use the sequencer and arps in the XL-7 semi-independent...

The guy was a fantastic producer, and is also an amazing engineer. He's pretty much completely focused on mastering for techno & related electronic styles.
