ridiculous compression

This is compressed beyond belief and on top of that, EQ'd to play into the ear's response to mids. There's no sense of percussive life to it, very little real bass, and it's just ridiculously loud no matter what actual level you listen to it. But how does one route note velocity to any given control/parameter on a following effect device? Like let's say I wanted to map note velocity->resonator frequency so that when I'm laying out notes, or beats, the sound will be implicitly tied to velocity. Not really seeing what the big deal is here. It's just standard beat repeat/fast chop/reduct/downsample stuff.

i.e. Autechre was doing it in like 1997. Surely you can learn to duplicate it.
