Re: multicore, multithread etc
One thing which only exists in W7 Pro and above is the ability for the box to be a Remote Desktop *host*. RD client is supported all the way down the chain (with possible exception of Starter), but RD hosting starts at Pro. That for me is a big deal and pushes me beyond Home Premium. Plenty are the ...

Re: music/video studio Desktop PC
There is an interesting discussion here: Will Live 8 be 64-bit? It's not apparent to me yet that having Live on a 64-bit OS is going to help us take advantage of more than 4GB of memory, because Live itself is only available in 32-bit. Ditto for a lot of hardware drivers. Personally I'm planning to ...

Re: music/video studio Desktop PC
zooli, That Lynnfield seems a pretty significant piece of CPU. Do you expect to be doing predominantly video production, vs. Live8 music production? Personally I want to spend not more than $200 on a CPU when building a desktop "Ableton Station". Am trying to decide between these CPUs, bas...

Need the CD contents!
I have the Special Issue (I really do! just ask me what's on any page and I can tell you). But I misplaced the CD a few days after bringing it home; I think my wife threw it out. It took me a long time to locate and buy the issue, so I'm wondering if anybody can make the contents of the CD av...

Having tweaked ASIO4ALL a lot, I can't find a configuration that completely solves my CPU problem. Compared to the former problem of about 2 sec dropouts due to a track with lots of signal processing, now I have about 1 sec gaps. So it's a definite improvement but still not where I consider it usabl...

Ignore my last post. Apparently it helps to R.T.F.M., in this case for A4A. Right there under troubleshooting it says: Problem: Audio device flagged as “Unavailable” or “Beyond Logic” even though it is not in use elsewhere Solution: You want to make sure the “MS GS Software Wavetable Synth” or anyth...

CPU utilization problems, external Firewire = solution?
Intro: The laptop on which I run Live6 is a rather aged Toshiba Tecra M2. I often have CPU utilization issues which make running Live really tedious. For example if I add the "Guitar Tube Amp Light" audio effect to a MIDI track, as soon as Live6 gets to the section in the track where any n...

Blake, I've chained together several in-bwox devices which seem to work at converting GM notes for Impulse. Listed below are the devices in my rack, from left to right: 1. Pitch device, adding 24 semitones to the MIDI notes 2. GM Drum Map (comes in-box in Live 6) 3. GM to Impulse Remapper (comes in-...

theque, Using MIDI-OX + MIDI Yoke (world's greatest MIDI utility) I was able to re-map the MIDI events generated by the XYZ dome, so that they're no longer Control Change events. The X-control now emits NoteOn events and the Z-control is mapped to control the output value of a MIDI Velocity device w...

Photon X25 XYZ dome and Live
theque, Did you ever succeed at mapping the xyz dome to controls within Live? I have Live6 and a Photon X25 and have been hoping to control Live wth it. I have verified that the xyz dome is sending sensible data, via MIDI-OX. What I'd really like to do is a theremin-like thing where the Z-control va...
