NYC/Dubspot Tour: Come show us your Live controllers
Hey everyone, We're having a free party at the wonderful 675 Bar in celebration of the Dubspot and Ableton Live 8 tour in town. That means beers and controllers (hopefully not getting intimate with one another.) Got an unusual controller for Live? Hacked up your ReMOTE SL into pieces like Moldover? ...

Re: APC 40 FAQs, features and questions
Yeah, I'll also defend controls with dynamics. No, they don't compare to, say, real bongos. (But a synth keyboard is also not as sensitive to dynamics as a real piano.) But they do compare to velocity-sensitive keyboards when done right. What I find is it's not just actuating the pad, but also the f...

Re: Novation iPhone / iTouch Automap App
Never mind, just found the updated version. http://jazzmutant.com/lemuruser_moduledetails.php?id=117 And now I need to try this with Live 8. So it looks like because of the updates to the Live API, it will be possible to do some new cool stuff with clips -- in a variety of controllers, really, but e...

Re: Novation iPhone / iTouch Automap App
Hey, works for me. I think folks are missing the point - the beauty of this is the ability to have *another* tool smart enough to follow your Live set. So if you're in a cramped space where nothing else will fit, or if you need a display for the (cough) APC, or if you're doing a sound check, or if y...

Whoo! By total coincidence, I'll be in the LA area for the user group, so it sounds as though I'll make a little cameo. :) Also playing Wednesday night at the wonderful new Irwin's Conspiracy, in Venice at Air Conditioning... expect some Ableton action from myself and from Steve Nalepa, with whom I ...

Vista + Live 6.0.5 performances experiences?
I'm curious to know what others are getting here. As support had originally indicated, Live is unstable under Aero Glass. I thought that 6.0.5 had begun to address this, but perhaps not. I'm unable to use Live at *all* under Aero; I get crashes just instantiating instruments. If I boot under Aero Ba...

Thanks, Alex. We've been waiting for this one, definitely. I'm suspicious that users may encounter other problems as side-effects of the graphics incompatibilities, not necessarily Ableton's fault. For instance, I'm still waiting on final, stable drivers from NVIDIA for their mobile cards. The momen...

Well, the big problem with doing visuals and audio at once is CPU usage. But there's now a very effective way of doing both simultaneously if you're on the Mac: http://createdigitalmusic.com/2006/06/16/create-musical-visuals-with-rax-and-quartz-composer-on-mac-free-software-download/ Anything that r...

I've tried the MPD-16, Korg padKONTROL, and M-Audio Trigger Finger. While the pads aren't the best, the Trigger Finger works well as a simple controller, though I'd skip it for serious drum programming. The pads on the MPD-16 aren't anywhere near as consistent and expressive as those on the Korg. So...

I just want to put my vote in for nLite in general. I built a new machine and went with nLite for the install and was able to strip down to exactly what I wanted. (Presumably you could do the same with the TinyXP config files.) Also, it's *extremely* handy to be able to incorporate your own chipset ...

I have to vote against the M-Audio, even though everyone else loves it. I think the action, while decent, can't compete even with my original Alesis QS8 (though they've done something with the action on the new 8.2 that I REALLY don't like). I had high hopes for controlling Live. But the thing is to...
