Re: DJing with Ableton Live
I really don't see the problem regarding "track preparation work" people are complaining about here. I've been DJing with live for years. I really love how it opens up the possibility to mix tracks that are not in constant tempo . Regarding 4/4 electronic music live almost always warps th...

Re: DJing with Ableton Live
Yes I would think you probably need an external soundcard, but there may be a way without one. Mine makes DJing with Live easy, especially with the APC40. I've never tried Tractor or anything, only Mashup. But I found DJing easy as long as you prepare all the tracks. First I load them into Mixed in...

Re: DJing with Ableton Live
NI Audio 2 is good and working. But before you go down the DJ route with Live, check out Traktor. Far easier to DJ with and with the new 2.6 multi-clip support yo could do similar craziness as with Live. So the only thing left is warping non-standard beat tracks (like early disco) and the option to ...

Re: Apple forgets about musicians
Just another rant. This slipped through.. New iMacs do not have FW800 ports. Only USB 3.0 this means that 1) The audio industry has to adapt to new standard (in theory faster but still less reliable in sustained mode) 2) All Audio cards that we have on 'old' FW800 Standard will not work 3) Mac Mini...

Re: finally... BITWIG STUDIO! beta 'soon'...
It's extremely seldom I've had a need so far to make my own racks in Ableton. Won't miss that at all if Bitwig does not have this feature in 1.0.

Re: Bitwig Plug-In Crash Protection
Surely the inter process communication overhead involved in passing around all that audio must hit performance hard - particularly if you want to use a small plugin buffer. If you have a plug in that crashes why keep it in your setup. Even if you are protected from an application crash it's still n...

Re: finally... BITWIG STUDIO! beta 'soon'...
I doubt that's the case. Customer as customer. It should not even be hard to lure over some of the Live users in case Bitwig is a fun/productive platform.simmerdown wrote:bitwig are trying to attract a new userbase, Live already has its captive audience

VST support and plugin crash protection  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwekCqQT-t8&feature=plcp There's usually a freebie plugin or two out there that will render it useless. By not crashing? :-). A crash is a crash. Most likely the implementation is based on an external process that co...

Re: finally... BITWIG STUDIO! beta 'soon'...
I definitely see a lot of cool and useful stuff in Bitwig, but I simply cannot get over how it all just almost exactly like Live. At this point, Ableton should simply monitor this thread, take note of what it is that makes Bitiwg so intriguing, and implement this in Live. I mean, if Bitwig can stea...

Re: finally... BITWIG STUDIO! beta 'soon'...
Oh they still alive! Of course they're still alive -- why do you think Ableton has scrambled to soft-launch Live 9 months in advance with upgrade pricing offers to lockin as much of their user base as they can? :) They could have done that but their upgrade pricing is not that special. So save the ...

Very nice! It's indeed time most DAWs should have plug-in crash protection.Hermanus wrote:VST support and plugin crash protection

Re: Live 9 - Export as mp3?
I said one option is to build MP3 export into Live and tell end users to install LAME so Ableton Live finds it.synnack wrote:huh? I have LAME installed and it does nothing with Live.kent_sandvik wrote:tell people to download LAME and Live finds it when the export window shows up

Re: Apple forgets about serious musicians
I had an interesting discussion with the FocusRite rep at AES/San Francisco last weekend. Yes, USB rules and USB 3.0 is even overkill for what is needed he said.

Re: Live 9 - Export as mp3?
Still no MP3 export in Live 9? Huh? If nothing else tell people to download LAME and Live finds it when the export window shows up. I know MP3 licensing costs money but there's a line to be drawn about being a cheapskate and providing export from a DAW.
