Noticed you have an HP. I occasionally have this problem on my HP Turion x2 notebook (but not on my PC) . Whenever it happens, I just reinstall the drivers. You should have this on your start menu ('install drivers' or something) under the padkontrol menu item. Maybe that's why the menu item exists....

If you're looking at the nx7400, you might as well look at dv6000 or dv6000z - it's solidly built, looks good (with the imprint finish) and has SPDIF built-in. Customize it and add more RAM. Got this last month - my Live has come aLive...
