I had the same problem when I tried on board sound cards (with both my desktop and laptop)- Connecting the output to the input just gave me HUMMmmmm

I now use an external card.

Check out Arkaos this can be midi triggered so you can set a midi track in Live to do it for you.... all you need then is to use a program like midi yoke to route the signal to Akaos...... no mac needed!

I am using it on a Desktop PC and a Laptop (Win XP SP2) with no stability problems what so ever... Very happy for the price.

The ultimate is to add a VJ application like Arkaos, but this will require a steep learning curve. This can be triggered from a midi chanel.

I have been having a similar issue using the method described in http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20174

I think it is something to do with my timing accuracy and the midi trigger signal, in the end I turned quantize off.

Is there any way of setting up the latency compensation in Live other than connecting the output and input together?
