front end audio has a great review of the VL-X5 and actually puts them up against the KRKs. check it out here.

by far, hands down, best in that price range are Tascam VL-X5. They will have those KRKs for breakfast.

Seriously amazing for that price. The only game in town for that price, actually.

Pentium D and Core 2 Duo are both 64-bit, so that previous advice is kinda worthless. but if you are looking at processors now, you really should be looking at Core 2 Duo for a bunch of other reasons. Go to Tom's Hardware or something and look at the differences and it will be pretty obvious why.

this has been addressed in the benchmark thread on here and it has been looking like this so far: Vista is better with CPU (if you have a multi-core), but uses a bit more RAM. Overall, even with my dual-core CPU, I run out of CPU before I run out of RAM, so I'm all about Vista.

that rewire business is going to have far-reaching implications that go way beyond reason, so i'm assuming they will get it solved pretty fast. still wish i could load reason as vst plugins, though.

well the OS problem is finally solved -- both OSX and Vista come as 64-bit now (vista will ship with an option to install either 64 or 32 from the same disk), so now the OS is not a question. and vista 64 will give users better security, so it's in everyone's interests to go with that. and, as i sai...

damn, that sucks. obviously a DAW is a place i really need more than 2GB of memory, but as long as they stay 32-bit we are all screwed.

What is the timetable on 64-bit support?

Like many people on here, I have a dual-core processor that is 64-bit capable, and now that Vista is being released, I am wanting to upgrade to the 64-bit version of Vista so that I can put more memory in my system and have the OS be able to use it, but at the same time I don't want to run my DAW in...
