Because Ableton can only work with WAV files. The MP3 compatibility is misleading. All this means is that Live now has the ability to decode MP3 into WAV, which is what the Decoding Cache is for. if you can decode MP3 you can also do it in real-time. i think the reason is that their pitching/timest...

decoding cache
please... dont decode MP3s and store them seperately as WAVs. this doesn't make no sense. the whole point of MP3 becomes useless.
you can decode MP3s in real-time with no problem. or at least let the user decide to play WAV or MP3 during playback if CPU is that important...

thanks for the replies. looking at those prices for the modules i decided to build them myself too. doepfer's core for 100 € is a LITTLE over priced. for 16 analog input channels you'd need maybe 2 analog multiplexers, a µC with an ADC, a DIN out connector, circuit board, wires, power. all this goe...

Re: What's the best way forward? to a better recording sound
moving to these higher sample rates will increase your maximum frequency, but will have virtually no impact on your bass or midrange. It's only going to be heard on your cymbals, air, or some synthesized sounds. that's not true. while a higher sampling frequency allows higher frequencies to be stor...
