Loudon Stearns (Boston, MA)

Loudon Stearns is a professor at Berklee College of Music in the Contemporary Writing and Production Department, where he specializes in composition with technology. Specific class topics include scoring to visuals, technology applications for songwriters, and composing electronic music.

Also an active member of the Berkleemusic.com online school, Loudon teaches Producing Music with Ableton Live, geared at getting new users up and running with the program. In 2008, he created Advanced Music Production with Ableton Live, which covers live performance techniques, unique compositional processes, and sound design using the entire Live Suite. Loudon's ever-evolving blog and YouTube channels serve as extensions to the class and feature video and downloadable projects that highlight new features, allowing the course to grow with Live's updates.

Studying with Loudon includes more than learning the program; every technical lesson is paired with a musical topic, giving an immediate application for the techniques and encouraging the student to grow as a musician. As a schooled musician with admittedly left-of-center tastes, he has something to offer all students; remix artists, electronic musicians, DJs, instrumentalists, composers, and sound artists learn from each other in his lively media-rich classes.
