Scanner

Digital artist, broadcaster and pirate of the airwaves, Scanner has been presenting works since the early 1990s. Sampled by Bjork and admired by Stockhausen, he's a frequent flyer whose works have taken him across the globe and back again. His projects continually seek to break new ground: In 1999, he performed "Surface Noise" on a London bus around the city; in 2000, he performed on over 20 km of beach in Italy over the public speaker system; he has remade the soundtrack to Jean Luc Godard's seminal film "Alphaville," written a soundtrack for a working morgue in Paris in 2002 and, most notoriously, played 16 concerts in just one evening with a series of look-alikes across the globe. In 2003, he became the first electronic artist to ever perform in Vietnam.

As well as producing compositions and audio CDs, his diverse body of work includes soundtracks for films, performances, radio and site-specific inter-media installations. He has performed and created works in many of the world's most prestigious spaces, including SFMOMA USA, Hayward Gallery London, Pompidou Centre Paris, Corcoran Gallery DC, Tate Modern London and the Royal Opera House London. He doesn't drink alcohol, tea or coffee, smoke or watch TV, but he does have an addiction to white bread and milk.

Scanner is currently composing the In-National Anthem to Europe for the EU Commission in Brussels, for presentation in late November, 2004.

He is creating work for the new Batiment d'Art Contemporain Geneva, working with architects on sound design in the gallery spaces.

He is working with celebrated fashion designer Hussein Chalayan on his new collection, based around the idea of blind people dreaming.
