A Requiem for Fossil Fuels in Berlin

Since 1987, the artist duo O+A, a.k.a. Bruce Odland and Sam Auinger, has worked to help audiences understand their surroundings through sound. On July 23, 2008, O+A's newest performance piece, entitled A Requiem for Fossil Fuels, will invite audience members to reflect on the decline of humanity's dependence on fossil fuels through sound in the form of a traditional requiem.

The Requiem combines the atmosphere of a church and text in Latin with the diverse recordings of urban landscapes from all over the world played in eight channels. Performing with the internationally renowned vocal quartet VOXNOVA, O+A directs the performance with a traditional score and two laptops running Ableton Live, weaving the voices of the singers with the sounds of the cities completely on the fly. Stay tuned to Ableton.com for a closer look at this performance and O+A's work.
