Introduction to Ableton Live with Institut FATIMA, a Workshop in Barcelona, October 27 and 28Barcelona-based music collective Institut FATIMA will offer a two-day introduction to Ableton Live. Over the course of the workshop, teachers will explain the fundamental concepts of the software and provide examples of various techniques and tricks. Class size is limited--two teachers for a maximum enrollment of fourteen students--so plenty of one-on-one time and assistance is guaranteed. Participants who purchase Ableton Live after the course will receive a 20 percent discount. Day One, October 27: Live Clips and how to manipulate them, Session View vs. Arrangement View, recording, how to use the built-in instruments and effects, understanding warping. Day Two, October 28: Live as a DJing tool, recording and producing finished tracks, experimenting in Live, live-looping and improvisation, how to use the library, introduction to MIDI controllers. After the second day's classes there will be a laptop session open to the public, giving the participants the chance to perform live what they have learned during the workshop. The workshop will take place at the NIU, a popular Barcelona locale for electronic music and digital arts. They have recently organized improvised electronic music sessions with various artists from the emerging music scene in the Catalan capital. Institut FATIMA also exhibited an interactive installation at the last Sonar Festival, a combination of an Ableton Live set with reacTIVision, the tracking software used in the famous reactable.
