Renowned as one of the early "bedroom producers" and featured extensively in books on the subject, including "Bedroom Beats & B-Sides: Instrumental Hip-Hop & Electronic Music at the Turn of the Century" (Laurent Fintoni) and others, Mesinai developed his own unique sound by developing his own sound systems and studios from scratch starting in 1983, and later set off his career by selling his productions on cassette only in the streets of NYC under the cassette only labels - "Psy Co." and "Ruff Riddim Productions" (1988-1993) producing on average at least one album a week since then till today, Mesinai has released over one hundred albums under various monikers such as Badawi, Sub Dub, Psy Co, Lady Man, Ghost Producer and Raz Mesinai, both independently and on such legendary labels as ROIR, Asphodel, Tzadik, Island and many others.

As a teacher, Mesinai has given lectures and master classes at UCSD, Bard College, NYU, The New School, DubSpot, Dartmouth and currently teaches exclusively at the Underground Producers Alliance, an artist development agency and art school for individuals to learn advanced techniques in music production, sound design, performance and engineering, tailored to suit their needs and co-founded by colleagues Scotty Hard (Wu Tang Clan, De La Soul), and includes mentors Honeychild Coleman (The Slits, The !865), Juma Sultan (Jimi hendrix), HPrizm aka High Priest (Anti Pop Consortium) and many more.

One of the first certified trainers of Ableton Live, Mesinai specializes in teaching mid level to professional producers extended techniques in sound design, arranging, composition workflows, mixing, mastering and extended techniques in music production and has taught renowned seasoned professionals how to adapt Ableton Live into their own workflows, including Green Lantern (Eminem), Prince Paul (De La Soul), Falty DL, Shackleton, Lori Anderson and many others.

As a composer, Mesinai's compositions have been featured at Lincoln Center (String Quartet For Four Turntables), Carnegie Hall (“CrossFader” performed by The Kronos Quartet) and many other prestigious venues. Mesinai has also composed music for several blockbuster films by such directors as Darren Aronofky, Ridley Scott and Jonathan Demme and was a Sundance Composers Lab Fellow in 2004.
