Maya Consuelo Sternel

Maya Consuelo Sternel is a musician, sound artist, DJ and producer from Berlin and the first female Ableton Certified Trainer. She plays theremin and produces music that ranges from experimental electronic to underground techno. Under her artist name Donna Maya, she has released her music internationally on various labels. She Djs and composes turntable concerts for philharmonic orchestras, and creates contributions for soundtracks, such as the movie Kurz und Schmerzlos by Fatih Akin. Maya is the founder of UPSTART Electronic Music Education, co-founder of the Berlin Ableton User Group and leads the Berlin chapter of Beats By Girlz.

Maya Consuelo Sternel studied audio engineering and earned a Master of Arts in Systematic Musicology at the University of Hamburg. For two years she worked as an engineer assistant at Unique Recording at Times Square, NYC, and worked with many well-known producers, from Run DMC, Coolio and Tricky to Leni Stern and Joe Lynn Turner. In 2012, she moved to Berlin and founded UPSTART Electronic Music Education. Maya shares her knowledge and experiences about electronic music production at universities, schools and cultural institutions, for example the ZKM Karlsruhe, the ZHdK Zurich and Hochschule Osnabrück, and has been invited to teach in many countries abroad. She regularly writes for the print-magazin Beat and is author of the book Beat Programmierung (published by quickstart Verlag).

Maya has worked with Ableton Live since the very first version. She offers online and onsite classes, hands-on workshops and custom tailored one-on-one lessons that cover all aspects of Ableton Live with an emphasis on music production, remixing and workflow optimizing.
