ReWire
Live is compatible with Reason. To learn how to use Live and Reason together, please see the ReWire tutorial here.
Please be sure to look at the In/Out View in Live to select Reason; make this visible by selecting In/Out from the View menu. You were probably looking at the Device chooser, which is for automating controls in Live. Also be sure that you have enabled the Monitoring switch for the track. To learn how to use Live and Reason together, please see the ReWire tutorial here.

Please make sure you are looking at the In/Out View to select Reason as an input and enable the monitoring switch.
The audio hardware is used by the ReWire master, and Live does not have access to the outputs, so it is not possible to pre-listen via a separate audio output when Live is running as ReWire slave.
Live (or your other ReWire software) may not be properly authorized. Please be sure that Live is not running in Demo Mode.
Please be sure that your application or Live version supports ReWire. Sometimes it may be necessary to remove the "Rewire" extension or library from your system. Live will reinstall the "ReWire" extension next time you start Live.
Live can only run as Rewire slave under OS X with Live version 2.1 or higher.
Yes, Live should show up in Pro Tools if you are using Live 2.1 or higher and Pro Tools 6.1 or higher. Live does, however, need to be opened after Pro Tools; it does not open automatically. Please see our ReWire tutorial here.
Yes, if your computer is fast enough to run all three applications at the same time.
Live will run in ReWire mode for 30 minutes each time it is launched. The full version has no ReWire time limitation.
Unfortunately, Pro Tools does not have ReWire capability in versions prior to Pro Tools 6.1, which is only available for Mac OS X and Windows. You can, however, run Live as a stand-alone application with your Digidesign hardware if you have Live 2.1.2 or higher.
Please be sure you are launching the ReWire applications in the correct order. Please see our ReWire tutorials here.
You must select separate outputs in Live via the Output Channel chooser in the In/Out View and set the ReWire master application to receive the input on separate tracks. Please see our ReWire tutorials here for instructions.
Please be sure that you are following the ReWire instructions for Live and Logic here. If the tutorial does not help, be sure that ReWire is properly installed, and turn off "Multi Processor Support" in Logic if it is activated.
We are aware of this problem and are working on a solution.
The problem may be a sample rate mismatch between Logic and Live. As a workaround, please try the steps below to let Live know the correct sample rate:
- Open Logic
- Load your song in Logic
- Set the desired sample rate in Logic
- Press Play and then press stop in Logic
- Start Live
Please be sure that the "Release ASIO driver in background" option in Cubase is disabled (not checked) — Windows systems only.
Yes, you can disable ReWire in Live by using the Options.txt file. Please see the instructions here.
Yes, you can limit ReWire channels in Live by using the Options.txt file. Please see the instructions here.
Yes, you can enable up to 64 ReWire channels in Live by using the Options.txt file. Please see the instructions here.
Be sure that you are using an Aux track in Digital Performer to enable ReWire and that you are launching Digital Performer first. Please see our ReWire tutorial here.
Please install the latest Reason demo; this makes sure that the latest ReWire components are installed on your computer. You can get the Reason Demo at www.propellerhead.se.
Live does not send MIDI data to the devices in Reason. You must set up the MIDI Preferences in Reason to use the input of your MIDI hardware. You can use the Reason sequencer to record your Reason devices or record them as audio in Live. To learn how to use Live and Reason together, please see the ReWire tutorial here.
Please be sure that the OMS Setup preferences are set to "Run MIDI in Background."
Please check the Reason MIDI Preferences and be sure that your MIDI device is set up properly. If using Mac OS 9, please check the OMS Setup preferences and be sure that "Run MIDI in Background" is enabled.
We are investigating this behavior. There currently is not a fix other than not using a pre-roll or not starting the sequence before measure one.
Please check Logic's audio preferences and disable (uncheck) the option for "Release Audio in Background if Stopped."
No, unfortunately this is not currently possible, as Logic (or another Rewire master) has a different behavior under DAE that Live cannot recognize.
