Your mission

As User Researcher for the Max for Live Team, you will own an integral part of how we evolve Max for Live, a unique technology for creative technologists.

You will be at the heart of a collaborative process that enables the extension of the toolkit at the intersection of both Live and Max, in a team that crosses the boundary between Ableton and Cycling '74.

Your audience will encompass a wide variety of users, from curious explorers to expert builders, and your work will deepen our understanding of our users and help shape product and design strategy.

Your responsibilities

  • You will collaborate with your team to identify and prioritize research needs and drive the user research efforts to address them across the whole development cycle – from early exploration, through to prototyping and eventually the released product
  • You will help your team pick the right method to create relevant insights to inform the team’s current objectives
  • You will conduct generative research through field trips and interviews with music makers, evaluate the desirability and usability of prototypes and concepts, and collect long-term feedback on new and existing experiences
  • You will screen, recruit and book participants for specific panels
  • You will facilitate analysis and synthesis of insights that help the team take action to improve our products
  • You will drive the reporting and communication of insights in collaboration with the team
  • You will develop the user research practice and the impact it has in the Max for Live Team as well as in other parts of the company

Your profile

  • You have experience delivering user research insights for a product or feature in the software industry
  • You have experience building long-term relationships with users and faithfully represent their perspectives in the development process
  • You are familiar with Max for Live, and enthusiastic about deeply understanding the domains of music-making and creative programming
  • You are an excellent communicator (in English) and can quickly build genuine rapport with others
  • You have a collaborative and reflective mindset
  • You think critically and with an open mind, considering many different perspectives before coming to a conclusion
