Sound Studies at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK)

UDK sound studies

The advanced degree program Sound Studies - Acoustic Communication prepares students for professional careers as sound designers or sound consultants in the fields of new media, design, art, music, journalism and architecture.

Sound Studies offers broad interdisciplinary coaching by renowned mentors like Karl Bartos, former member of the Band Kraftwerk. The combination of the strands of "Anthropology and Ecology of Sound," "Experimental Audiomedia," "Audio Media Design" and "Acoustic Conception" is unique. 25 — 30 Students learn both practical and theoretical aspects of sound, sound design, acoustic communication and other related fields. The program takes four semesters and is being taught in German.

Right from the start in 2006 Ableton Live has been an integral part of the course in the strand of Audio Media Design. A group of students is even using the program for their final presentation in combination with their mastersthesis.
