Crash when clicking the Edit Button of a Max for Live device in Live 8

  • Live-Versionen: 8.2.2 - 8.4.1
  • Betriebssystem: OS X

Symptom

Live is crashing when trying to edit a Max for Live device.

Reason

Third-party software corrupts Live and/or Max settings.

One known problematic program is the anti-virus software MacKeeper, there might be other software having the same effect.

Solution

A fresh reinstallation of Live and Max:

  • Open Live's Preferences → Library tab.
  • Select the Max for Live Content pack and click "Uninstall".
  • Quit Live.
  • Delete the Live application from the Applications folder by moving it into the trash bin.
  • Delete the Max application from the Applications folder by moving it into the trash bin.
  • Delete the content of this folder:

/Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences/Ableton/

  • Delete the content of this folder:

/Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences/Max 5 Preferences Folder/

  • Download the latest Live and Max 5 versions and install both applications.
  • Restart Live.

Note: Your custom Template and Remote Scripts will be erased. Audio and MIDI hardware need to be setup again, as well as plug-in support.

Note: On Mac OS 10.7 Lion and above, the user Library folder is hidden by default - here's how to make it visible.
