Why do my projects suddenly transpose?

Many times now one project has randomly transposed and stopped me in my tracks. I mean, all operators/synths suddenly go up a half step or so. Today the problem occurred in a second, totally different project (sad face).

The midi data is still the same. It just all sounds higher and terrible. The only way I can undo it is to quit and re-open. I've tried everything from moving the midi data up and down, ultimately returning it to its original place, to "un-doing" till I'm way back. Also, I am sure automation isn't a factor.

Has anyone experienced this?? Thanks.

I wish I had an answer for you but I'm fairly new to Ableton myself.  Kind of sad that in 3 months you haven't got the answer you were after.

So I'm not just posting nothing of any use what it sounds like it could be to me are :

    https://www.ableton.com/answers/transposing-midi

Automation related issues where the MIDI controller is somehow having the problem.  Perhaps uninstalling the MIDI Device driver under device manager and re-installing would fix that up if it were the problem.

Could also be this Automatic Transpose option which some people have mentioned is turned on by default

    https://www.ableton.com/answers/filter-and-transpose-is-enabled-automatically

In the 2nd case, I would be inclined to look under the options area and see if there is anything about that setting which can be altered.

You may have already tried these so I'm not really sure what else to say.  Best thing may be to try and contact Ableton but when I try to use their "helpful" contact support links, it takes me to a page where it refuses to allow me to contact them.

My guess i support is only available for regular Ableton and higher.. those using Ableton Live Lite are in te cheap seats and get nothing.

I had this for a while almost a year ago and I found a fix but its been so long that I've completely forgotten the answer. It's definitely something rather simple too… If I figure out the fix I'll be sure to post the answer.

Sounds like there's some mix up in the sample rate in the application - The fact you mention 'half a step or so' sounds like the usual change from 44.1Khz to 48Khz. So just double check your soundcard in your OS is set to the same as that in the Ableton preferences.

I have exactly the same problem, when working on my projects the midi tracks suddenly transpose half a note higher, while the midi notes are untouched.

I have a m-audio keyrig 49 midicontroller, and a focusrite soundcard, i think the problem is with the midi controller, because if i turn it off, half of the tracks are back to normal but not all. So havent figured out yet what to do.

edit: reinstalling the midicontroller drivers in windows didnt work

And my focusrite sample rate setting is the same as in ableton: 44100 hz

    can anyone help?

It is probably my keyrig midi controller, if i physically unplug it, random transposing of tracks does not happen anymore, but know that i can't use my m-audio keyrig 49 anymore :(
