17 votes received15 votes$300 for an upgrade??? Not sure I need this upgrade this much.. What a bummer. Cant remember what the cost was to switch from 8 to 9, I doubt it was more than $100-$150 but please correct me if I'm wrong. In any event, NI Komplete 10 to 11 is $199 and a $25 voucher, Cubase-Pro upgrade from 8 to 9 is $199... and so on.
If its true that Live 9 to 10 is $300 - even considering the 20% preorder - then this will hurt both, users and Ableton.
Ableton what are you thinking???

Isn't that a DOWNGRADE from Suite to Standard?? And if you want to upgrade to Suite 10 from Suite 9 it's $300??
Good lord are you serious?
How can you charge someone over $200 dollars to DOWNGRADE their DAW??

A Loyalty upgrade would be really nice, and then I'm hoping it won't be like the one from iZotope, 'cause I bought their production bundle but don't have the money to purchase their 'loyalty upgrade',...It's still like; half price!!
There's a ton of new functionality in Ableton 10 so I will try and save up till early 2018, but of course it's always great to be able to buy some missing hardware for my studio too and with all this 'update & upgrades' hypes, I really am struggling to stay with it. Making music is more expensive then I originally anticipated.
I should sell some of it, but that turns out to be difficult too,...5 months ago | 0 comments -

3 votes received3 votesI bought Live 7 in 2008 for £449 then upgraded to Suite 8 for £152. Then I upgraded to Live Suite 9. Over the years I've spent £880 on Ableton Live products.
But now, as I never saw your tweets about the free period and never got any emails from you despite being signed up to your mailing list, you want me to pay a "discount" price of £229 to upgrade to Suite 10? The only reason I even knew Live 10 had been published was because Sonic Bloom happened to mention that the free period was now over - so I missed it by ONE DAY!
Live 9 might be 7 years old, but no other company charges its loyal customers such high prices just to keep up with upgrading the same thing. This is going to damage your reputation - even more than your attitude to licensing Live on more than one machine and your very abrupt 'customer service' emails already do.
The upgrade should be free, not for a specified time, but forever - the better you treat your customers, the more they'll spread the word.
Please rethink this.

199€ instead of €249. Looks like a fair deal. One FAQ item mentioned that this discount is available until the Live 10 release date.

I later added Max4Live on its own i.e. not via upgrading to Live Suit 9. What happens to my Max4Live license if I upgrade to Live Standard 10? Should I upgrade to Live Suit 9, which only gives me the sound libraries?

2 votes received2 votesHaving first purchased Live 6, upgrading to 7 then Live 8 suite. Purchasing Max for live for 299 usd with Live 8 way back in 2009. 8 suite to 9 suite for 199 usd.
Now 9 suite to 10 suite 419 aud, about 330 usd!!!
This is almost half the price of a new licence. How is it justified when you already have a suite and max for live licence?
Why is upgrading from suite to suite more expensive than standard to standard? Especially when already having a m4l licence.
I know a lot of work has gone into 10 and m4l. The update is probably the best to date.
But I can't believe these prices. Feels like someone is getting greedy.
Edit: I think it came as a bit of a shock at first. I didn't expect it to be so pricey. I still think it's steep having a suite and m4l licence already.
I've never bitched online like this before.
I haven't upgraded yet but will soon. I think it IS the best update to date.
The workflow improvements are brilliant, everything I've wanted and have been waiting for a while now.
Wavetable is amazing, Echo looks very interesting and from what I've heard it may be up there with EchoBoy.
Hopefully it will still run great on my machine and I'll be happy.
It is the most badass DAW for electronic music IMO.
I just really hope this isn't a trend that will see it become out of reach for a lot of people.

Never see any upgrade price this high.
I would invest to other plugins instead of paying for this upgrade.
It should be $150 tops for an upgrade if you have suite.

2 votes received2 votesGuys... Ableton 9 is 7 years old. We were still recovering from the market crash. You're telling me that a DAW that is upgrading after 7 years for $300 is bad? You know you can make 3 separate payments of $100/ea too right? I mean Ableton is used by almost every single EDM producer so there's one reason it's steep. But with inflation, 7 years ago this would be $150 which is pretty reasonable.

1 vote received1 voteAnyone upgrading from Live 9 to a comparable version of Live 10 (e.g., Live 9 Suite to Live 10 Suite), and didn’t purchase it recently as part of the upgrade promo, receives a 20% discount off the standard upgrade price. In the case of upgrading from Live 9 Suite to Live 10 Suite, the normal cost for the upgrade is $300. With the 20% discount, the final total for my pre-ordered upgrade was $239. It is pretty steep, considering I could purchase an entirely new DAW for a comparable amount, but Live has always leaned towards the more expensive end of DAW prices, for reasons unbeknownst to me.
I was looking at my old invoices from when I upgraded from Live 8 STANDARD to Live 9 SUITE in 2014, and it cost me $279. The more I think about it, the more pricey this update sounds. Maybe this is their secret way of getting us to retroactively pay for all the “free” stuff that came with the 9.5 update.3 months ago | 0 comments -

1 vote received1 voteHave always believed in Ableton, until now..you've turned into a conn. I bought 8 back in 2010 > upgrade to 9 in 2012 > upgraded to 9 suite in 2014 > bought your push 2 in 2016 now you want another $300 for mostly what I already have. I am a professional producer.
You want it, now your going to get it. Your push 2 is like a chinese abacus, see I know how to play a C13+11-9 chord in it's second inversion on the piano! Used your push 2 1 time, I can program my drum tracks on the road even, from a $99 dollar AKAI MPK mini, have the whole track done faster than even setting the grid up in PUSH 2, it's for monkeys in a zoo!
No I'll take my $300 and keep purchasing samples from creators like "spitfire audio" like the awesome bundle I bought recently, "Swarm" cause truthfully allot of your samples simply SUCK and I rarely use them..or I'll take that $300 and upgrade my EZ drummer to thier superior drummer package with something like 25Gigs of awesomely recorded drum samples...recorded in one of the best studios in the world!
No I'm seriously thinking about jumping ship completly to a new daw..
I'll prolly go out here to justify your sterotype image of an "ugly american", by saying you can kiss my red blooded YANKEE ASS! $99 for a upgrade to Sutie10 or nothing kemosabe, that is the max to jive, it's worth to me.

1 vote received1 voteI used to be an accountant before I became a full-time music producer and I personally think that the $300 is a perfect price. $250 would have been generous, and I've heard there's a discount if you're going from Suite 9 to Suite 10 which I am so that's nice, but I feel like $300 is just right. Even $325 would have been too much. Frankly I say this because I don't want everyone and their brother to be able to use Drum Buss, Pedal, and Echo over the next 2-5 years. Why should that sort of thing be cheap? Do you people even understand the amount of hours it takes to design those 3 effects? Also Wavetables is comparable in quality to Serum from what I've seen on YouTube and I don't have Massive yet ($150 and maybe worse than Wavetables), so them having a great synth other than Operator (which I'll still use) is amazing for me. Honestly those 3 effects and 1 instrument are super top end, I've seen what can be done with them and they seem better than most plugins. You people say invest in plugins instead but these 3 and the new synth are better than most plugins and is only $300, and it also comes with a HUGE new sound bank I'm assuming and a TON of technical fixes (like sub-groups and midi chasing and grid snapping) AND the new capture tool. And there isn't going to likely be another upgrade for years and you wont get that one cheaper unless you already have 10, so you might as well quit bitching and upgrade because you know what these changes and effects make producing waaaaaay simpler and quicker and provide a way more streamline workflow, and I don't know about you all but I use this program almost every day so I want the best version possible. $300 is perfect for me, you can have all the fancy equipment and crap you want but if you don't have a top end DAW and know it in and out then you aren't gonna be producing as well or as fast as the pro's that do have it.

1 vote received1 voteI am usually also not one to complain online on forums like this. But this is just ridiculous.
I don't care how amazing work flow is now on Live 10. Where exactly is the loyalty. I spent so much money to buy 9 Suite, push 1, and push 2 when it came out. It should have been a much, much smaller fee, to cover the cost of producing the new Live 10 version.
So at this point in time, i have a few options.
I could fork out the extra $419 AUD to upgrade to Live 10 suite or $319 AUD to upgrade to Live 10 Standard (Which doesn't make sense by the way, Brand new Standard is $629 to buy and Suite is $1049 to buy, but there is only $100 difference in the upgrade pricing.)
I could just ignore this upgrade and continue using Live 9 (which im more than happy with anyway)
I could again ignore this upgrade, as I'm happy with Live 9, but instead spend an extra $200 and buy Bitwig Studio 2 and over time make a permanent switch to Bitwig who seem to have a better appreciation for their customers.
