Tracking cursor / bar in Ableton is ahead of the audio

Apologies if this question has been answered before, a search couldn't locate it - largely because I have no idea what the correct term is for the line that sweeps across the arrangement view page as you are playing a track that shows the position against what you are hearing (position marker?).

I have a Sony Viao with ASIO drivers and a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB interface. I have been using Live 5 for some time now with no problems. However I have upgraded to Live 8, and now notice that the position marker moves ahead of what I am hearing (about half a second?).

This makes editing MIDI parts and audio clips very very difficult indeed as I cannot isolate the correct parts to edit with what I am hearing.

If I turn off the delay compensation then the MIDI tracks go to pieces and do not play properly.

It worked fine in Live 5, but not in Live 8. Has anyone else come across this and know of a solution????

That's a tricky one, could be many things. You may have tried them but this is a list of the things I'd check:

    Update ASIO driver

    Check ASIO driver preferences

    Experiment with different Buffer Sizes

    Check the Plugin Buffer settings

    Check the Track Delays

er... scratch my head... have a cup of tea, try again : )

It would also be worth contacting Ableton Support, they're really good.

I think you have a big latency setting. If your latency is more than 500 samples you may experince delay. My setting is 125 samples. I use Macbook Pro w/ Saffire 26io.

    Good luck!

Many thanks. During the upgrade from Live 5 to Live 8 the driver setting had reverted back to MIME/DirectX!! A quick reselect of ASIO option fixed it straight away.

    Doh!!

    Many many thanks for this.
