Playing synth in Live without recording?

Greetings.  Is it possible to play a VST/AU or Live synth/sampler without being in record mode?  More specifically, I have several tracks ready for a live performance (drums, bass, etc.).  All of that will be playing - that of it as the backup band - and I want to play the Sampler over the top of that, but I don't want to record what I'm playing over it.  Is this possible?

Thanks.

Yep, as long as the track is armed, you should be able to play stuff without recording:

mcbpete:  thank you very much for your response.  I honestly don't know what I was thinking.  I just automatically assumed that if the track is armed, it will be recording, and I can see now that that is not the case.  Chalk it up to another instance of not thinking things through.

    Thanks again.
